DIGITAL SCHOOL II

The “Digital School II” project of the NSRF 2014-2020 (MIS code: 5001312) aimed at the development, expansion, and evolution of the Ministry of Education’s online services for Digital Educational Content in Primary and Secondary Education, as well as the development and utilization of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and best Educational Practices. Based on the results of the “Digital School I” project (Digital Educational Platform, Interactive Books, and Learning Object Repository) from the NSRF 2007-2013, it was designed and implemented by CTI “DIOPHANTUS.”
The “Digital School II” project comprised the following 10 actions:
Action 1: Expansion, configuration, and support of the large-scale operation and sustainability of the “e-me” Digital Educational Platform for students and teachers (e-me.edu.gr). This involved: configuring e-me for large-scale operation by leveraging existing cloud computing infrastructures, developing, expanding, and improving the core system and services of e-me, developing and integrating e-me apps to expand its functionality and providing technical management and support for its systems.
Action 2: Expansion, improvement, and support of the operation and sustainability of the “PHOTODENTRO” Digital Repositories of Open Educational Resources. This involved:
a) Updating the Photodentro GR IEEE LOM Metadata Application Profile.
b) Expanding and improving existing Photodentro Repositories: Learning Objects, Educational Videos, Educational Software, User Content, and Open Educational Practices.
c) Enhancing supportive subsystems and services, such as Quality Stamps and Microsites.
d) Developing the new Photodentro i-create Repository for Student Creations by implementing the Photodentro SaaS (Software as a Service) model.
e) Designing and developing the new “Photodentro Educational Scenarios” repository and the “Photodentro Learning Scenario Designer.”
Action 3: Expansion, improvement, and support of the PHOTODENTRO Greek National Aggregator of Educational Content for school education (photodentro.edu.gr), enabling digital content search from a central point. This also involved the improvement of the PHOTODENTRO MEXT subsystem to support the National Aggregator of Educational Content Service and the interconnection of a small number of external repositories with  the enrichment of pedagogical metadata where needed.
Action 4: Redesign and modernization of the “Interactive School Books” website (e-books.edu.gr) and creation of the “Photodentro Interactive School Books” Repository. This included migrating content, documenting metadata for existing books, uploading and documenting new or updated school book editions, and providing user support.
Action 5: Development of several hundred new Open Educational Resources (OERs) for formal and informal, school, and early childhood education, as well as improvement and updating of a small number of existing OERs.
Action 6: Selection, uploading, and metadata enrichment documentation with metadata of several hundred new OERs in “Photodentro” Repositories, whether developed within the project or retrieved from other sources, and improvement of the metadata quality of selected OERs in the “Photodentro” Repositories.
Action 7: Expansion and updating of the enrichment with OERs of existing Interactive School Books, and enrichment of a small number of new school books. This also involved updating the HTML format of existing books and converting a few new books to HTML.
Action 8: Continuation and expansion of the “I Participate” Action to highlight and promote best Open Educational Practices using digital content. This was supported by regional “ambassadors,” the “I Participate” hub (i-participate.gr), and the “Photodentro Open Educational Practices” Repository, as well as by conducting a contest for Open Educational Practices.
Action 9: Publicity and promotion of the project at National and European levels. This included:
a) Design and development of a website, organization of workshops, participation in conferences, production of publicity materials, and promotion on social media.
b) Creation of an online “Observatory” system to monitor the use and utilization of digital educational material in schools.
c) Production of audiovisual material (videos) promoting OERs.
Action 10: Administrative, financial, technical, and scientific support for the project.
