The certification procedures in digital skills – abilities address Primary and Secondary Education teachers of all specialties in Greece. They are carried out through digital exams that take place nationwide in Certification Centres (KE.PIS.) / laboratories in State Universities and concern three (3) successive levels of knowledge and skills – competences:
A-Level ICT Teacher Certification (Basic ICT skills): The content of the A-Level ICT Teacher Training certification process is adapted to the work requirements of teachers in order to be able to meet their daily needs, utilizing basic ICT skills in the school environment but also outside of it.
It focuses on the modules: a) Use of Personal Computers (PC), b) Word Processing, c) Spreadsheets, d) Internet and Communications and e) Presentation Software. The certification process is carried out with the support of a suitable software environment, which presents the candidates with the individual tests and enables them to use the corresponding software applications (e.g. word processing application, spreadsheet application) to complete the required tasks and reach the desired result of each test. Grading takes place in an automated way.
B1-Level ICT Teacher Certification: The B1-Level ICT certification exam is addressed to teachers who have completed the Introductory Training for the educational use of ICT. Candidate teachers are given a test with a certain number of questions, which refer to the training material of the cluster of the B1-Level ICT teacher training program which they have attended in correspondence with their individual specialty. The test includes questions of multiple choice, true/false, matching, filling in the blanks, etc. (question automatically corrected), which the teacher is required to answer electronically, through a special application.
B2-Level ICT Teacher Certification: The B2-Level ICT certification exam is addressed to teachers who have completed the Advanced Training for the utilization and application of ICT in the teaching practice. It includes two parts: a) the automated part of the exam, where the examinees are asked to answer electronically, a certain number of questions automatically corrected, which refer to the training material of the cluster of the B2-Level ICT teacher training program attended in accordance with their specialty, b) the non-automated part of the exam, where the development of an educational scenario that includes ICT utilization is requested, in a subject matter of their individual cluster. The grading of the first part takes place in an automated way, while the second part is graded by a body of graders, consisting of B-Level ICT Teacher Trainers.
The certification at each level of skills – competences requires a score of at least 60% in the corresponding exam and generally contributes to the professional development of teachers in positions of responsibility.
The certification procedures are being implemented since 2001 until today by the Computer Technology Institute and Press (CTI) – “Diophantus” and since then approximately 160,000 teacher certifications have been implemented.
